CRASHBAR FAQ

What is Crashbar?

Crashbar is a weekly show that features long form improv teams and stand up comedians in the LA community. It is located in lovely Los Feliz every Sunday Night at 7 pm at the Clubhouse (1107-a El Centro off Santa Monica
Los Angeles CA 90026 ). The teams we feature are usually based out of but not limited to Upright Citizens Brigade and iO West. We are dedicated to providing stage time for up-and-coming student teams as well as featuring well-known veteran teams, making each week a new hilarious lineup. Most shows feature 7 teams and 1 stand up comedian, although we do have specialty shows from time to time.

Do I have to buy tickets?

No! Crashbar is a FREE show, but we strongly encourage donations. There is always a basket by the door where people can drop money into. We also provide beer and bottled water to drink if you like and will accept donations for said beverages. We encourage audience members and performers alike to donate, as we are a non-profit show and 100% of proceeds go back into Crashbar.

What’s parking like?

Street parking only. If you have special needs and need to park in the lot, email us a day prior to the show and we will work it out with the valet.

Is there an age limit?

No, all ages are welcome to enjoy but please keep in mind the subject matter on stage can be PG-13 or R rated and may not be appropriate for children. Best judgement encouraged.

Does Crashbar host short form improv teams, sketch comedy acts, or plays?

No. We will have specialty shows from time to time that may feature such things. Otherwise, no.

——-SUBMISSIONS——

How do I submit my team for Crashbar?

Email crashbarimprov@gmail.com with the subject title “team submission.” Please provide your team’s name, team coach (please CC your coach on the email), and list of members separated by commas. We will then contact you to let you know we’ve received your submission and again when we have a slot for your team. Slots for teams run about 15-20 minutes long.

What if my team does not have a coach?

Because of our long waitlist, Crashbar prioritizes improv teams that are regularly practicing and coached. Uncoached teams are still welcome to submit, but these teams will not be guaranteed a slot.

What about 2-person teams?

Because of our long waitlist, Crashbar will not usually feature 2 person teams. However, Crashbar holds at least 1 2-person tournament a year. If you would like to submit your team for the tournament(s), just email us with the subject title “2-man tourney submission.” If you do not get a slot, you are more than welcome to reapply for the next one.

Approximately how long is this waitlist?

At the moment, it can range anywhere from 4-7 months from the date you submitted. Subject to change.

May I resubmit a team that has already played at Crashbar?

Yes you may! You are free to resubmit after your team has performed at Crashbar. We do not guarantee a slot for all returning teams, unless you continue to be regularly coached. If so, please CC your coach on the resubmission email.

Any more immediate opportunities for stage time?

Yes!

1. The Lottery – Every last Sunday of the month we have a special show called The Lottery that features

5-6 random performers and 2 UCB regulars.

How to Enter: Every time you come to a Crashbar show, you may enter your name/email in a drawing. If your name is picked, you win a performance slot in the Crashbar Lottery. We keep the same names in the running for the whole month, so the more shows you come to that month, the better your chances are of being picked!

2. Crashbar Jam – At the end of every show, we feature an Improv Jam which is free to all and anyone may participate. The Jam is 25 minutes long and you are welcome to just watch and/or play at any point during that time. Jam starts at approximately 9:45pm.

How do I submit myself for a standup slot?

Email crashbarimprov@gmail.com with the subject title “standup submission.” along with clips or footage from a previous set. Video quality doesn’t matter; we just want to see you do your thang. Submission does not guarantee a slot; we will email you back if we would like to feature you in our show. Slots for standups run about 7-10 minutes long.

Approximately how long is the standup waitlist?

At the moment, it can range anywhere from 2-5 months. Subject to change.

What’s up with that egg?

That is the all knowing Crashbar Egg. He can be found on facebook invites, flyers, and will answer emails from time to time. He keeps a hard shell on the whole operation to make sure the producers don’t get scrambled when they’re answering emails or whipped by too much work and makes shows go over easy. He also tells yolks to make people crack up by the dozen. Soft boiled.
